SUBSTITUTE TEACHING NEWSLETTER
FALL - BACK TO SCHOOL-
2001
I imagine you all know by now, but just in case you were away for
the Summer and missed it,
the School Board voted you a pay raise effective the beginning of
this school year. You will
now be paid $58.00 per day and $29.00 per half day. Retired
teachers (defined as a
participant in T.E.R.F. with their fund number verified in the payroll
office) will be paid $75.00
per day, and $37.50 per half day of service when teaching within
their certification.
New Handbooks are available at the reception desk at the Administration
Building (686
Wabash Ave.) In the new Handbook you will find school calendars
for the next 3 years along
with a pay period schedule. Anyone who has a handbook
older than 8/13/01 should pick up a
new one.
The new SubFinder System is up and running. For the most
part you won’t find too many
things changed. Most of the changes effect the site
administrators and myself. One new thing
that you will be able to do is find out what your sub ID number
is without having to call me.
You have to go to #4 “review your personal information” and
on that menu you will be told
your Sub ID number. They are also listed on the Web, from
home the address is
http://sublist.vigoco.k12.in.us and from any school corporation
machine you only need to type
in the word sublist in the browser location and hit the enter key.
The list will come right up.
If you have not sent in your update form please do it right away.
If you have lost yours or
didn’t receive one you can pick one up at the Administration reception
desk. Remember you
must be activated in the system for the computer to know you are
available. You must call in
(462-4021) and record your voice and check your personal information
to make sure
everything is correct.
If for some reason you did not get your picture ID badge last year
please get one as soon as
possible. You will be required to wear it while you are subbing.
To get your ID badge go to
the General Services Building 3250 Maple Ave. Go in the Transportation
Dept. door. It only
takes a few minutes to get one. Their hours are 7:00 am to 4:00
pm.
I have had several calls this Summer about license renewal.
The one year licenses that have
been given out since 1998 are all extended to Sept. 1, 2002.
If you have one of the old 5
year or 3 year licenses you must get a new license when that type
of license expires. You no
longer get a renewal of a license, like you use to, because you
must apply for a limited criminal
history and turn in a new license application each time your license
expires. This has been a
state law since 1997.
I know in the past we thought this problem was fixed, and it wasn’t,
but this time we believe it
really is. I need help from some of you who live out of town.
If you have not been receiving
calls in the past and you live out of the immediate Terre Haute
area (Brazil, Marshall, Clinton,
Rosedale, Paris etc) I need to hear from you after school starts.
I need to know if you are
now getting calls, and if you are able to interact with the computer,
using your keypad, from
your home to either accept or reject jobs. If you still
do not receive calls or you do receive
them but still can not interact with the computer please let
me know. I’d like to hear from you
after the second week of school.
So far this Summer I have only received information from four people
with proof of graduation
and a copy of a teaching license. It is very important
for you to get this information to me. If
you work a long term assignment with only a sub license, after 15
consecutive days you
receive a flat rate of pay but if you have your teaching license
you will receive degree and
experience pay, which is quite a bit more money. Also, after
you supply proof of graduation I
can send in the paper work for your teacher’s retirement fund account.
The only way to be removed from the list is to call the office (462-4052)
and ask to be taken
out of the database. Or to check the box on your update form
telling me you do not wish to
substitute next school year. Please do this as soon as possible.
Please keep me informed if your email address changes or if you want
to be removed from the
email list. My first mailing this Summer had over 35 come
back to me as undeliverable You
can email me at pzw@vigoschools.org or pzw@vigoco.k12.in.us If you
don’t have email now
but get it during the school year let me know your address and I’ll
add you to the list.
